Shaun Davies

Shaun has continued his family´s long golfing tradition when he joined his grandfather, Eddie Davies, in 1991 to concentrate on producing hickory clubs, full size and miniature, for the heritage golf market. Working alongside Eddie, Shaun learned the traditional skills and techniques of the craft, handed down through a continuous line of clubmaking apprentices, from the earliest Scottish feather ball and longnose club makers.

Eddie was a good friend of the renowned golf historian, David Stirk, who published tributes to him in his books ‘Golf, the History of an Obsession’ (1987), and ‘Golf: The Great Clubmakers’ (1991) referred to Eddie Davies as the last of the Master Clubmakers, and called upon his knowledge and expertise for his writings on the clubmaker’s craft.

Eddie’s grandson, Shaun, would often visit his grandfather’s workshop when he was younger, watching with fascination as Eddie worked, little knowing that one day he would be working alongside him.

Shaun started a career in IT before realising his true vocation, and began working with his grandfather full-time in 1991. Eddie’s son, John (Shaun’s father) who was Secretary at the Royal North Devon Golf Club at that time, joined them soon after to form ‘Davies Clubs’. During his time as Secretary, John created the museum that can still be seen in the Royal North Devon clubhouse, and was also co-author of the limited edition book published to celebrate the club’s 125 year anniversary.

Over the years, the Davies’ have made and supplied replica clubs and tournament awards to many prestigious events, golf clubs, museums, and private collectors worldwide.

In the USA they have had the privilege of working with the PGA of America and the following PGA events; MCI Classic Pro-Am, Northville Classic Pro-Am and the Honda Classic Corporate Cup and Dealer Pro-Am. Also, miniature clubs made by the Davies’ were used for the PGA ‘Past Winners Award’, each award individually signed by Ben Hogan. Also in the USA, Davies Clubs have supplied prizes for Bay Hill, Isleworth, Lake Nona, Naples National, Tuscon National and Due Process golf clubs among others.

They have also supplied golf items and replicas to the USGA Museum, Far Hills, New Jersey; the Canadian Golf Museum, Quebec; Royal North Devon Golf Club Museum; British Seniors Golf Society; Sanyo Golf Club Museum, Japan. A forty minute video on the ‘Art of Club Making’, featuring Eddie Davies, was made by the Sanyo Golf Club for showing at the 1996 Japanese PGA Championships held at the club.

With the interest in playing with hickory clubs growing year by year, Davies Clubs have supplied refurbished playable sets worldwide, including to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Far East, and many European countries.
